The attack group in Illinois is loaded with experience and is one of the most competitive position groups in the state. The following players should all leave a major mark on the upcoming season and could garner some serious individual accolades at the end of the season.

  • Sam Clark – Glenbard West – Providence College

Clark, the Providence commit, is the only returning first-team attackman on the list. Clark’s game is built for the Division I level; he is smooth, efficient, knows how to get to every spot he wants on the field, and makes lightning-quick decisions. With Logan McDougal moving on to Western Reserve Academy, Clark will have an increased role in Glenbard West’s season and should put up huge numbers.

  • Tommy Bartenhagen – Benet Academy – Mercer University

Perhaps the fastest player on the list, Bartenhagen is an explosive scorer who can win an entire game by himself. His footwork makes him a nightmare matchup from any spot on the field, with or without the ball. He is also a relentless worker on the ride and can win multiple extra possessions for his team that can change the tide of a game. Tommy has played attack for his entire high school career, but word on the street is he may be running out of the midfield this season for Benet. If that is the case, look out for him to be on the midseason All-State watch list in the midfield group.

  • Charlie Foley – Wheaton Academy – Lafayette College

Foley will finish this season having been a starter at Wheaton for three out of his four seasons, starting as a sophomore on their 2023 state championship team. Foley is one of the most consistent producers on the list and will show up in the box score multiple times every game. He is also a skilled passer who gets his teammates involved in a variety of ways. Foley received honorable mention on last season’s all-state list and should take another step forward in his senior season, leading Wheaton’s attack unit. As the veteran on a young team looking to take the next steps, Foley will be a pivotal piece in initiating Wheaton’s offense.

  • Jonah Frank – Neuqua Valley – Denison University

Jonah is a slick, skilled, and crafty attackman. Despite being one of the smaller players on the list, Jonah is a dominant scorer who can create offense in ways you wouldn’t think possible. Like other big names on the list, Jonah has a ton of wins under his belt, helping lead Nequa Valley to a sectional championship last season. Frank put up an astounding 140 points in Nequa’s sectional-winning campaign and could threaten both school and state scoring records this season.

  • Grant Adams – Wheaton Academy – Uncommitted

This name may be a surprise to some, but if you have watched Wheaton Academy or followed the summer circuit, you will know why he’s here. Grant is a dominant athlete with one of the deepest bags of scoring moves in the state. An imposing presence on the field, Adams will be impossible to miss for Wheaton Academy this year and could quickly establish himself as a can’t-miss name in Illinois lacrosse.

Honorable Mentions

Jack Fischel (Bellarmine), Luca Scandroli, Emmett Lee, Trevor Martay (Depauw), Andrew Mullan (Marist)
